The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band

The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band So this past weekend I went to my very first Baton Rouge Blues Fest.  It was a two day event. Unfortunately, I could only make it on Sunday.  As with any festival here in Louisiana, there were good drinks, good food, and good music. For me, one band stood out as not a good band, but an amazing band.  I say that for several reasons.  I’m not going to pretend I have always been a fan, but I had heard of the band before and liked a couple of their tunes.  But seeing them live, I went from “Meh, they’re ok”  to “This is one of the greatest bands out there.” A buddy of mine turned me on to the band about two years ago.  I enjoyed the sound.  There are...

I couldn’t think of a better topic for the latest entry than what has been consuming my life since last month than FALLOUT 4.  I love the music in this game series, the score and the soundtrack.  Before we get too deep into this let me say this now.  I have never been a PC gamer.  I have nothing against it, I have just been a console gamer since my Atari 2600.  So I cannot speak on Fallout 1 and 2, I never played them.  I have played 3, New Vegas, and of course 4.  But we are not here to talk about which is better or the game itself.  Lets talk music. There is great music to listen to while wandering the wasteland, Billie Holiday, The Ink Spots, Bing Crosby, and Dion just to name a few.  Nothing...

My First Love

R.E.M. R.E.M. was born in 1980.  I was 14 in 1987 when I heard my first R.E.M. song “The One I Love.”  I would discover later that this was just one song from an album that would change my life, well as much as your life can change when your 14.  That one song would open my music world.  Up until this point growing up, I was listening to the radio or what ever my parents were listing to.  This was mine – this song, this sound – finally something that spoke to me.  The worst part……no internet.  How at 14 do you find more songs by this band?  The answer….MTV!  We didn’t have cable at this time growing up, enter my buddy David Stokes.  Dave, he had cable, he had MTV, but had he heard of R.E.M. yet? Of course he...

The Nightmare Before Christmas Happy Halloween everyone.  Lets dive in so you can continue your spooky activities for the day.  Back in 1993 when I saw Tim Burton was doing a stop motion film, I couldn’t get to the theater fast enough.  I have always been a fan of Tim Burton’s work.  And when there is Tim, there is a really good chance Danny Elfman is going to be a part of it as well.  As you can tell from the last post, I’m also a Danny Elfman fan.  I mean come on — a stop motion film previewing a talking skeleton with Tim and Danny, how can this be bad?  If you don’t already know……it isn’t. If you haven’t seen this movie let me sum it up for you.  It’s great.  It is about Jack Skellington who is...

Oingo Boingo

Hello, all.  Sorry that I haven’t posted in a while, but life seems to get in the way of the really fun stuff sometimes.  I was wondering what band to post about this week.  Since it has been awhile and while talking with my brother this week it came to me, OINGO BOINGO! Oingo Boingo was around from 1979-1995.  You are probably familiar with the song “Weird Science,” which was the title of the same movie.  If not, then I know you are aware of the frontman, Danny Elfman.  He has done the score for just about all of Tim Burton’s movies, The Simpsons theme song, co-wrote the soundtrack to the X-box game Fable, A Nightmare before Christmas, and the list goes on.  If you haven’t heard any of those………what rock are you living under? On to my personal...

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead So lets talk dead. I love this story — the books and the TV show. I think both are great in their own ways. This is not to start a debate over which is better or if The Walking Dead is overrated. This is just my take on the series. I mean lets face it, if you don’t know about TWD yet, you don’t belong on the internet. HA! I had the honor of being a guest on Heroes and Villains talking about Rick Grimes. You should really check it out. It’s amazing! I just can’t believe I forgot to mention this album during the discussion. If you are a fan of the show, this is a must have for your collection. There is a remix of the main theme song and young Beth also sings....
