Rock The Night!

When you talk about the Swedish metal band Europe, everyone thinks of The Final Countdown.  But Europe had another song that rocked just as hard, titled Rock the Night.  Written by lead vocalist Joey Tempest in 1984, it was the second release from the album, The Final Countdown.  The song became a Top 10 hit in France, Italy, Ireland and Switzerland, hit #12 in the UK, but only reached # 30 on the Billboard charts in the US. Green-tinted Sixties Mind by Mr. Big

Do you remember when MTV played nothing but music videos?  In the mid to late 1980’s, heavy metal music spawned the sub-genre now known as the hair band era. It was a short but glorious time for music, which quickly faded away with the advent of grunge. One of my favorite band is Mr. Big, whose first album, Lean Into It, hit the shelves in 1991, the same year as Nirvana’s Nevermind.  Being late to the scene, Mr. Big didn’t achieve the notoriety of bands like Whitesnake or Motley Crue. Their style is a little different than a lot of the metal of the time, their sound not quite as hard.
