This week’s installment focuses on the Legionnaire known as Timber Wolf!Timber Wolf is Brin Londo and first appeared in Adventure Comics 327 as Lone Wolf. He was basically Wolverine before Marvel did Wolverine. Here is a link to a fantastic origin page for Timber Wolf: The costume from these pictures was designed by the legendary Dave Cockrum, who would later draw Wolverine. In fact, when Cockrum later took over drawing the X-men and helped create the Imperial Guard, he patterned Guardsman Fang after T. Wolf After his costume is destroyed, Wolverine kills Fang and takes his. Timber Wolf has had multiple costume variationsHe was featured in the Legion animated seriesHe was in long-running relationship with Light Lass. One of the best Timber Wolf tales takes place in Legion of Super-Heroes v.3 issue 13 and spotlights Brin as he  attempts to honor the...

Wildfire – My Favorite Legionnaires Pt. 1

If you’ve listened to our show for any length of time, you know by now that the Legion of Super Heroes is my favorite group in all of comicdom. For the next several weeks, I’m going to spotlight my favorite characters from the team, throughout various times in the team’s story line. We’ll start with Wildfire . Wildfire was created by Cary Bates and Dave Cockrum and first appeared in Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes #195, June 1973. Wildfire was originally Drake Burroughs, an astroengineer. While he was working on a new propulsion system, the unit’s safety valve snapped and discharged a blast of anti-matter energy. Burroughs was engulfed instantly but somehow his consciousness survived and Burroughs found himself transformed into a being of pure anti-energy. Fortunately, his colleagues had on hand a containment suit that could be used...

Wolverine #90

I don’t mean to over do the Wolverine on the site here, but this is another Wolverine comic that really struck a chord with me. This was the first time I really saw Logan do harm to another living creature instead of cutting guns, or robots or threatening people. This was a big deal for my time as well. Wolverine verses Sabretooth, sure they fought all the time, but this was the fight of fights. Victor was basically telling Logan he was a push over and that when he lets him go free, like Logan always does, he’s going to go and torture and kill all the people  in Wolverine’s life he’s cared for. Mid monologue, Wolverines claw comes up through Sabretooth’s head, and Wolverine lobotomizes him. It was the coolest thing I’ve seen Wolvie do at that point....

Major Victory

In reference to the last episode I would like to prove how cool Vance Astro (or Astrovik) looks as Major Victory, and show  Tom how wrong he is about this character! Just to catch you up, Vance went on a quest to find the lost shield of Captain America. Upon doing so, he was injured and his containment suit became damaged.  He was soon healed by Krugarr, Doctor Strange’s former apprentice , who also freed him from his suit. That’s all I’m really going to get into because Vance has an extensive origin and it would take an entire day to go over it. But, if you would like, here’s his wiki page! Seriously! How cool does this guy look? He may look lame to you now in the year 2013, but in the mid 90’s, he was freakin’ cool! =Dan...

In the last episode I had mentioned a Guardians of the Galaxy poster I had as a kid.  This poster was one of the first exposures I had to the Guardians. I was only able to find this one picture of it. Drawn by Jim Valentino and Rob Liefeld. Please enjoy! =Dan Major Victory Charlie-27 Nikki Yondu...

Dan’s first encounter with Superman

Posted by on Jun 22, 2013 in Comic Books | 0 comments

I think it’s safe to say that the majority of the people around my age all had the same first experience with Superman. He was thoughtful, and gentle and caring. All that and more on the Superfriends cartoon show. This cartoon was not only my first exposure to the Man of Steel, but comic book characters in general. I got most of the figures, and the Hall of Justice and cool stuff like that. My parents bought me Superman comic when they happened across them in the grocery stores, but I still didn’t think he was awesome. Just kinda saw him as a dude in a cape in these cartoons Then came the movies! Oh, how wonderful those were at the tender age of 8. Superman III was the thing that sticks out the most to me. Seeing the movie developed...
