Two fan boys and two long time friends talking about everything that's nerdtastic!

Jim Butcher, author of the Dresden Files and The Codex Alera

Wednesdays are kind of free-for-all days here at WNC. No specific topic, just whatever strikes our fancy. Today, I would like to recommend one of my favorite authors. This won’t be a review or even a comprehensive look at this author, just a brief glance at him and his work. I have recommended this author before and his stuff is always good, whether the first read-thru or a re-read, and I even did an episode of the Heroes and Villains podcast about his most popular character. The author I’m referring to is Jim Butcher, author of the Dresden Files and The Codex Alera.  Jim is truly one of us, and it shows, especially in the many references made throughout the Dresden books.

The Dresden Files is about Harry Dresden, a wizard living in modern-day Chicago. So far,  there are sixteen books in the series, each of them great. The most recent is titled Skin Game.skingame_lgHere is a link to a sample chapter of the first book in the series, called Storm Front: http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/storm-front/sf-chapter-1

The Codex Alera is about Tavi, a young lad who lives in a world surrounded by magic, but having no magical  abilities himself. The first book in a series of six is titled Furies of Calderon.

Jim has even written a Spider-Man novel, The Darkest Hours.

Jim has a new series coming out, beginning  in September with  The Aeronaut’s Windlass, a steam powered adventure series(I can’t wait!!!!).

Jim Butcher is one of my favorite authors. While prolific, the books read through quickly, mostly because you can’t put them down! I recommend you pick some up today. I know our local library has the books available to check out as Ebooks, but after you get hooked, you will want to add all of them to your bookshelf.
