Do you remember when MTV played nothing but music videos? In the mid to late 1980’s, heavy metal music spawned the sub-genre now known as the hair band era. It was a short but glorious time for music, which quickly faded away with the advent of grunge. One of my favorite band is Mr. Big, whose first album, Lean Into It, hit the shelves in 1991, the same year as Nirvana’s Nevermind. Being late to the scene, Mr. Big didn’t achieve the notoriety of bands like Whitesnake or Motley Crue. Their style is a little different than a lot of the metal of the time, their sound not quite as hard. They had a fairly big hit with To Be With You, which got a decent amount of radio airplay, but my favorite song by Mr. Big is Green-tinted Sixties Mind. Not too heavy, with smoothly blended vocals, it doesn’t assault your ears like a lot of the music of the time. I’ve posted the video below. Sit back and enjoy!
